Bluegrass Special

Based on a Shen 100, this concept behind this bass was to incorporate classic bluegrass elements from the ground up. The shades of nitro lacquer were chosen to replicate the colors of certain classic American mandolins and plywood basses, and applied in a classic "jumping jack" burst pattern as found on many old Kays and American Standards. Natural bridge and gold hardware throughout add to the vintage look. The set up took the needs of bluegrassers into account, employing adequate string height for good volume and punch, and using Thomastik Superflexible strings for nice feel, slightly darker tone and excellent projection. This instrument went to California's Kerner Breaux.
