Pete Ostle's (Unnamed)
After Pete Ostle of Washington, D.C. saw the Cream Soda, he had an idea of what he wanted in a custom bass. He called up and within a couple of weeks, Pete was on a flight out to metro Detroit (his old stomping grounds) to check out some NC wares. After some deliberation, the formula was in place: A 'dirty,' true vintage blonde with just enough edge to let you know it's a serious roots music machine...
After giving the white wood a very slightly dirty look, on went the custom-mixed amber-blonde, probably the most accurate representation of aged lacquer I've done. Black binding went on next, followed by an ivory pinstripe around the outline and f-holes. After clearing and leveling, it was all topped off with a coat of satin clear in keeping with the retro vibe. Pete also opted for a black bridge which, along with the fingerboard, tailpiece and pegbox interior black-out, keeps with the black-n-blonde theme. Pete further accessorized the bass with a Norton carbon fiber endpin and Fishman Full Circle pickup.
Speaking of "full circle," this bass' scheme is similar to one of the very first customs to come from NC, the "True Blonde." Perhaps it's only fitting that one of the last basses to be completed harkens back to NC's infancy. Regardless, Pete's bass is - as all others before it - a well-set-up, great-sounding bass with a flair all its own.
